Matthew Toffolo: What is your 1pg Short Story about?

Brian O’Flaherty: It is about a burglar, recounting how he avoided jail time.

MT: What genres would you say this short story is in?

BOF: Comedy. Crime.

MT: How would you describe this story in two words?

BOF: What? Doggonit!

MT: What movie have you seen the most in your life?

BOF: Star Wars, Return of the Jedi.

MT: How long have you been working on this story?

BOF: About two days.

MT: Do you have an all-time favorite novel?

BOF: Hard to pick a favorite, so I’ll give a shout out to, “Star Wars, Tales of the Bounty Hunters.” Not really a novel, but a brilliant piece of work that will never receive the recognition it is due.

MT: What motivated you to write this story?

BOF: I thought it would be fun. It was a little more challenging than I anticipated, because too many things were rhyming on me, so I decided to make the whole thing rhyme. It also helps create a rhythm, because a 400 word limit, provides very little time to create a rhythm in the story.

MT: What artist would you love to have dinner with?

BOF: Shakira.

MT: Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

BOF: Shakira and Star Wars.

MT: What influenced you to enter the 1pg. Short Story contest?

BOF: I got an email, alerting me about the contest. I also love the critique that Wildsound Fest offers.

INTO AUTUMN – Chapter 8 Transcript READING by Larry Landgraf

Watch INTO AUTUMN Transcript Reading:

Performed by Kaleb Alexander

Get to know writer Larry Landgraf:

1. What is your novel about?

A chilling account of how Lars Lindgren and Eileen Branson must change in order to survive when all of humanity is forced into desperate survival mode after the grid shuts down and the economy crumbles. Strong believable characters, in gravely realistic scenarios sure to make some squeamish. This novel is rated R for sex and violence.

2. Why should this novel be read by people?

Most people refuse to believe that a catastrophic failure of society as we know it could happen. And if it should happen, most are not certain what that might mean to them. Into Autumn is a realistic scenario of what might, could, happen at a moments notice in the very near future. People need to be aware of and think about what this might mean to them should their world collapse. Into Autumn will make you think.

3. How would you describe this novel in two words?

Thought provoking!

4. What movie have you seen the most in your life?

Independence Day

5. How long have you been working on this novel?

Eight months to write, edit and publish. Four and a half months marketing at this point.

6. Do you have an all-time favorite novel?

Tom Sawyer

7. What motivated you to write this novel?

I woke up one morning with a story in my head. I started typing and before I knew it, I had written 300 pages. Editing added another 100 pages.

8. What artist would you love to have dinner with?

Carrie Underwood

9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

My orchard, my garden, travel and living a secluded life in my swamp.

10. What influenced you to enter the Novel Festival?

Marketing! Failure the first time around. I know I’ve written a good story. I think many others will agree, and I want to get my story “out there”.

11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

Write with your heart, then edit, edit, edit…… Be patient, yet persistent. Not everyone will like what you write due to personal preference, and that is okay. Don’t be discouraged. All first drafts are crap…edit, edit, edit. Yes, I said that twice. It’s that important! And still, it will never be perfect, and that is okay too.

Get to know writer Kimberly Dana:

1. What is your novel about?

It’s ten years after cheer captain Lexy Mills’ bizarre drowning, but the bloodthirsty pranks are still going down at a hypnotic pace. Urban legend says it’s Lexy seeking revenge, picking off cheerleaders one by one in a symphony of horrors.  Peppered with humor and wit to offset the diabolically scary, CHEERAGE FEARAGE will have teens salivating for more Tiki Tinklemeyer and tales of the sleepy, supernatural town of Valentine. CHEERAGE FEARAGE is the first installment of a paranormal jaw-dropping teen series, jam-packed with chills and thrills that will leave no pimple ungoosed! Fire up as the girls get ready to fly high and die! Ready? O-kay!

2. Why should this novel be read by people?

Teens love chills and thrills, and this novel is no exception.  Think Friday the 13th meets Bring It On!

3. How would you describe this novel in two words?

Creepy fun.

4. What movie have you seen the most in your life?

I love suspenseful thrillers.

5. How long have you been working on this novel?

I wrote Cheerage Fearage in about twelve months.

6. Do you have an all-time favorite novel?

My favorite novel is To Kill a Mockingbird.

7. What motivated you to write this novel?

Competition and drama are a big part of girl world.  I loved the idea of a cheerleading co-captain drowning the captain, who comes back as a vengeful ghost.  Her bloodthirsty motto could only be Fly High and Die!

8. What artist would you love to have dinner with?

Stephen King

9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

I love to cook, write, and read voraciously.
