Short Story Reading: Falling, by K.L. Crighton

Performed by Carina Cojeen

Get to know the writer:

1. What is your short story about?

Polished and professional, Leigh, is a powerhouse at work but navigating life isn’t always so easy, especially when she’s around her handsome neighbor, Kevin. A bad day ends with her on the verge of something new.

2. What genres would you say this story is in?

Falling is at the beginning of the beginning and, like life, has the potential for many twists and turns. At first glance, it appears to be a romance. But as a lover of mysteries, I see potential for a much darker turn.

3. How would you describe this story in two words?

Anything’s possible

4. What movie have you seen the most in your life?

The Princess Bride- it’s filled with romance, adventure and everything in between.

6. Do you have an all-time favorite novel?

I’m a fan of mysteries. The Perfect Assassin by Ward Larsen is one of my favorites

7. What motivated you to write this story?

I’ve always love writing. On one of those days where everything can go wrong- this story answers the question of “what else could happen.” But, as with most bad days, there’s usually a silver lining if we look hard enough- a much needed glass of wine or the prospect of a better tomorrow.

9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

I love being outdoors- hiking, sitting by a fire or even working in the yard. I’m also a huge animal lover and spend a lot of time with my two horses and energetic yellow lab. And anything that resembles a puzzle motivates me- whether it’s a good mystery book or an organizational strategy project at my day job.

10. What influenced you to enter your story to get performed?

The short story performance motivated me to conquer the dreaded blank page that every writer faces at the start of something more.
