Novel Transcript Reading of GHOST IN THE PORCELAIN by Melissa R. Mendelson

Performed by Scott Beaudin

Get to know the writer:

What is your novel about?

Ghost in the Porcelain is the beginning of a tale of terror surrounding a porcelain doll. Wherever this doll is, death will follow, and a family will be destroyed. And Kelsey Evans was trying to do the right thing. He was trying to save a life, but in doing so, he not only condemned his life but those that he loved.

What genres would you say this story is in?

Supernatural, Horror

How would you describe this story in two words?

Dark and Suspenseful

What movie have you seen the most in your life?

I have seen many, many movies for it is one of my passions, and one of my favorite all time classic Horror movies is Dolls (1987). And Dolls was an inspiration for both Porcelain and Ghost in the Porcelain.

What is your favorite song? (Or, what song have you listened to the most times in your life?)

Next to movies, I love music, and when I write, I’m always listening to music. But favorite song? I would say, A Place In Time (Theme Music from the 4400 featuring Amanda Abizaid)

Do you have an all-time favorite novel?

Charlotte Sometimes by Penelope Farmer

What motivated you to write this story?

I’m an avid fan of the Twilight Zone Series and Stephen King, which has inspired me to write numerous stories both Science-Fiction and Horror. Porcelain is one of my notebook stories that was created in high school in 1996, and Ghost in the Porcelain is the story before that one, introducing us to an ancient curse that lies at the heart of Porcelain.

If you could have dinner with one person (dead or alive), who would that be?

Stephen King

Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

After my heart surgery in 2012, my father gave me his digital camera, remembering that I used to love taking pictures, and from that point on, I’ve been doing a lot of photography, photography that I also use in videos on Youtube.

What influenced you to enter your story to get performed?

WildSound has always done a tremendous job in their deliveries of my writing, truly capturing its voice, and in doing so, opening a door for the world to discover the stories and poetry that I keep inside.

Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

It might sound corny, but I will say it anyway. Never give up on your dreams.
