I recently chatted with Sheila Kell about her new novel:
Matthew Toffolo: What is the general theme and tone of your novels?
Sheila Kell: Theme: Learning to get over past events that have prevented one from falling in love.
MT: Why should people buy your novel?
SK: AJ Hamilton wants to take a reader into a world of smokin’ hot sex and intrigue that will fade everything around you, bringing you deeper into the breathtaking action that will keep you engaged in rooting for his ability to finally have an HEA.
MT: How would you describe your novel in just two words?
SK: Steamy suspense
MT: What movie have you seen the most in your life?
SK: Love Actually
MT: Was being a novel writer something you’ve always dreamed of doing?
SK: It hasn’t always been something I’ve dreamed of doing. When I graduated high school, I wanted to be a journalist. Maybe that’s why the character in my second book is one. Probably when I was in my thirties, when stories began developing in my mind, I thought I might be a novelist. It took until I was well into my forties before I decided to take the plunge.
MT: Do you have an all-time favorite novel? Have you read a novel more than once?
SK: Besides Harry Potter and Outlander, which I’ve read more times than I can remember? I’d say that Julie Garwood’s Murder List is probably my favorite because it pulled me from contemporary romance into romantic suspense and ultimately into writing. I am still in love with Alec, the yummy hero.
MT: What motivates you to write?
SK: I was initially motivated to write because something told me the stories in my head had to be written down. I hadn’t planned to publish, but after meeting some great writers I thought what the heck. Now other writers, friends and readers motivate me. I’m scared they’ll show up if I don’t. I’m joking. It’s still the stories that must be told.
MT: What artist would you love to have dinner with?
SK: I’m actually not choosy. I’d be humbled to have the opportunity to have dinner with any.
MT: Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
SK: I am an avid animal lover. If I could spend every spare moment in rescue and love of animals, I would.
MT: Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
SK: I pass on the same advice that I received – just write and then write some more.
