Matthew Toffolo: What is the general theme and tone of your novels?

K. L. Burnham: The general theme of my novels is that sometimes the darkness can show you the light. All of life’s situations and events happen for a reason and sometimes we have to be in utter darkness for a time to shape us to become who we are now once we are back in the light.

I love horror stories and Vampire stories and so I found a way to integrate the theme and tone in to a great book that I’m hoping people will enjoy.

MT: Why should people buy your novels?

KLB: Well, I have received great reviews and ratings on Goodreads and on the Amazon site. I think people, especially fans of Stephen King and Anne Rice, should take a chance on my novel, Undying Vengeance. It is a tragic love story full of Vampires, thrills, heroes, good, evil and all the ingredients which make for a memorable read.

MT: How would you describe your novels in just two words?

KLB: Tragic Love

MT: What movie have you seen the most in your life?

KLB: The Phantom of the Opera

MT: Was being a novel writer something you’ve always dreamed of doing?

KLB: No. I did it for fun when I was young and have always been an avid reader. I went through some dark times in my life and that’s when I began writing with the intent to fulfill my hope and dream. My dream is to be able to write full time as my job, but as for now, I write whenever I can between family and a full time job.

MT: Do you have an all-time favorite novel? Have you read a novel more than once?

KLB: I can’t pick just one, but I’d say there are quite a few of Stephen King’s novels I’d label as my all time favorites.

MT: What motivates you to write?

KLB: My goals. My need to reach my dream. I write because it’s an escape from the world, an outlet of sorts. There’s a quote about how you’d go mad if you didn’t write. Well, that’s me. It’s a form of therapy and it is wonderful to use my imagination and create a world of my own.

MT: What artist would you love to have dinner with?

KLB: Stephen King. I have so much to ask him and tell him. He is my inspiration for writing. My literary rock star! I started reading his books when I was about 13 and I fell in love with his writing and thought, I should give this a shot.

MT: Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

KLB: I’m passionate about my daughters. Reading is my other passion. I read to entertain myself and to learn from other authors

I’m also passionate about Art in general, having been a practising artist for many years, although writing is now my thing.

MT: Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

KLB: Only what I’ve learned from other writers. Never give up. Write everyday. Set goals. Your voice is unique. View criticism as a learning tool but remember that some people criticize because they like to hurt people. They may not have even read your book. Don’t let the negative wear you down. Focus on the positive.

Rework something from the past, bring it into the present. There is much to learn.
