Short Story Reading: Where They Be, by Dave Shafer

Performed by Elizabeth Rose Morriss

Get to know the writer:

 1-What my story is about?

My story is about a Native American boy growing up on the reservation and coping with the recent passing of his grandmother.

2-what genres?

Realistic fiction, Native American literature.

3-describe the story in two words

good, sad

4-movie I’ve seen the most in my life?

Goodfellas

5-favorite song (or song I’ve listened to the most times in my life?)

I’m pretty phasic with music so it changes, but I’ve listened to Eminem’s “Till I Collapse” quite a few times. I used to write to it a lot.

6-Do I have an all-time favorite novel? If so which one?

I’m about a third of the way through “Don Quixote” and its pretty incredible like if someone were only going to read one book (especially one novel), I’d recommend “Don Quixote.”

7-What motivated me to write this story?

The Muse.

8-dinner with one person (dead or alive), who would it be?

Buddha or Elon Musk.

9-Apart from writing, what else am I passionate about?

Great question. I’m also very passionate about reading, Zen, technology, comedy, films, music (particularly rap music), so yeah quite a bit.

10-what influenced me to enter my story to get performed?

I need more exposure.

11-advice or tips for other writers?

Have no doubts about the existence of the Muse. She is very real.
