Watch LIZARDIAN Transcript Reading:
Get to know novelist Melissa R. Mendelson:
1. What is your novel about?
Lizardian is a Horror/Science-Fiction Thriller that chases after the footsteps of Stephen King, X-Files, and Being Human. Its focus falls on Laurel, who struggles to finish out high school while under scrutiny for saving a life, but nothing and no one is what they seem. And a monstrous force has arrived in this quiet country town, and with it a stranger, who will bring this town to its breaking point, where no one might survive.
2. Why should this novel be read by people?
If there weren’t a demand for all things that go bump in the night, then CW’s Supernatural would not be on television for eleven years or signed for a twelfth season. FOX would also give up their search for new and groundbreaking television shows such as Almost Human, Lucifer and Second Chance. SyFy would also call it quits, canceling Dominion and Killjoys, and USA Network would follow, ending Colony. But there is a demand, and we hunger to believe and experience.
3. How would you describe this novel in two words?
Suspenseful and Chilling.
4. What movie have you seen the most in your life?
I have seen too many movies especially Horror and Science-Fiction movies, but one that comes to mine is the Gary Sinise movie, Impostor. Are we who we really believe ourselves to be?
5. How long have you been working on this novel?
I started this novel back in July of 2015, and it’s almost finished.
6. Do you have an all-time favorite novel?
I am an avid Stephen King fan, but I sadly have not read a lot of his books in recent years. Still, his best book in my opinion and my favorite is Hearts in Atlantis.
7. What motivated you to write this novel?
Lizardian was a short story written back in my senior year of high school (1996), and I got the opportunity to turn it into a series on Channillo.com. Originally, this series was only going to be a novella, but it has reached over 200 pages. And you do have to subscribe to Channillo.com to read this story, but all subscriptions are being donated to The Leary Firefighters Foundation.
8. What artist would you love to have dinner with?
Stephen King or Nick Santora
9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
Movies and Television Shows and Fan Fiction.
10. What influenced you to enter the Novel Festival?
This is a great festival that has provided me with critical and honest advice, which assisted me in honing my writing skills, and because of that, my first novel chapter has been revised. And it is now a winner of the Novel Festival.
11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
I used to think my old writing was horrible, but don’t be too quick in throwing it away. Maybe, years later, you can look at the story in a different light and recreate it into something special.
