Read Poem: If not then, when?, Alejandra Blanco

I walked to my girl cousin’s bookshelf
She has more books than I do
Also, more written by women books
So I took one
And read feminist poetry to the sound of the washing machine

Poetically waiting for the laundry to be ready
Reading and doing laundry
Como las mujeres de antaño
Haciendo quehacer
Cosas de mujeres

Y lloré para mi
I wept to the sound of the dryer

Happy to be a woman
Grateful to feel everything so deeply
To be able to watch my life happen

Mujer
Más que nunca
Como siempre

And that day, I started writing this book

Fully translated version:

If not then, when?
I walked to my girl cousin’s bookshelf
She has more books than I do
Also, more written by women books
So I took one
And read feminist poetry to the sound of the washing machine

Poetically waiting for the laundry to be ready
Reading and doing laundry
Like women in the old days
Doing chores
Women’s things

And I cried to myself
I wept to the sound of the dryer

Happy to be a woman
Grateful to feel everything so deeply
To be able to watch my life happen

Woman
More than ever
As always

And that day, I started writing this book
