Read Poem: Bloody Mary, by Anthony Jackson

Genre: Abuse

It’s horrendous down this dark hall
The one you know
Bloody Mary haunts
Which ends in a glow in the dark
Poster of a green skinned alien waving

We don’t know if it’s hello or goodbye
Or fuck you, you human piece of garbage
Because we can’t speak alien
At 3 in the morning
When he comes into my room
All too human and I drown in silence
So much silence as the monsters
Light cigarettes and eat salted plums
In the doorways, his drunken breath
Berates me, turns me over and over
Deflates me until like a breached beach ball
I sit there in my own piss

The hallway laughs with a hiss.
I miss my mother
As he walks away laughing.

Bloody Mary haunts this hall
The one I can never walk
That one creaking board always snitches me out.
I can never
Sleep
I weep
I set the neighborhood houses on fire

No one listens

Bloody Mary lights another one
With the very same lighter I stole
To strike the blazes

28 days later
He’s back in my room
At 3 am turning me over and over
Like a shovel full of dead concrete
Sprinkled with lime and tossed in a corner
To cry myself hoarse and scream into
My pillow until I’m numb

The aliens and Jason Vorhese
All sit in front of a scrambled signal from
The Playboy channel eating hogmaws
From the skull of a boy they ignore
As they squint and draw closer to the screen
To try and make out a glimpse of a boob.

Bloody Mary floats through
With her good Indian Hair
She doesn’t really care

As I watch him walk away laughing again
I miss my mom
I steal all the house guns

It’s the silence of death
That overtakes the night
I cannot move
Paralyzed by his weight

The smell of cheap cigarettes
The bed is wet
Is it blood or piss
Tears or cum?

I can’t tell anymore
I cannot tell anyone
I miss my mom

As Bloody Mary pokes the alien
And sings to it an interspecies love song
The hallway yawns voraciously
As he laughs
Always laughs
Breaking me.
