Interview with Candalee Beatty:
Matthew Toffolo: What is the general theme and tone of your novel?
Candalee Beatty: The theme of the book was finding the truth of the patterns I was seeing with the numbers and in the books I was reading and fitting them together. It was like a puzzle, but the puzzle had pieces from many other puzzles. In the beginning and still I had so much research, there were so many correlations, narrowing them all down was hard, and necessary to complete Book 2. When I realized how much more work there was still to be done, I knew there was going to be a third book. It will focus on the biblical journey throughout the Americas.
The tone of this book is deep, dark and from the pit of my stomach. The research speaks for itself, but I knew I had to connect the dots with my own words, thoughts and visions. I treated each chapter as it’s own story and entity, each chapter was nothing more than a chapter. Disassociating myself from what I was writing about was the key to making sense of the correlations, and it made the interpretations much easier once I let go of what others might think.
MT: Why should people buy your novel?
CB: To see a different point of view of the facts touched upon and reinterpreted, to seek knowledge and understanding.
MT: How would you describe your novels in just two words?
CB: Negative. Positive.
Yin. Yang.
Black. White.
Balance. Key.
MT: What movie have you seen the most in your life?
It’s a toss up between Erin Brokovich and Titanic.
MT: Was being a novel writer something you’ve always dreamed of doing?
CB: I have always wanted to write a book, since I was 12. I am looking forward to writing fiction. I have many, many ideas. I began writing a novel last year around this time (March) but was deterred in May when I began writing the Whitewolf Visions series. I can’t wait to get back to it, but I must wait until the third book is completed before I can continue.
MT: Do you have an all-time favorite novel? Have you read a novel more than once?
CB: Paulo Coelho, By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept.
MT: What motivates you to write?
CB: What motivates me to write is that feeling in the pit of my being that tells me if I don’t write what’s in my head, my heart and my soul that I will become so lost in my thoughts and current feeling that I will be lost to the real world. Writing, however fantastical, keeps me sane, whole and happy.
MT: What artist would you love to have dinner with?
CB: I would love to have dinner with George Gordon (Lord) Byron.
MT: Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
CB: I am passionate about my children, walking, nature, researching, photography, wandering aimlessly through the woods and road trips and love…I am passionate about love.
MT: Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
CB: Keep Calm and Chive On….Keep writing and keep reading.
